The Indian Navy got a major strength on Tuesday (August 26, 2025) when Defense Minister Rajnath Singh commissioned two modern stealth frigates INS Udayagiri and INS Himgiri. On this occasion, he referred to the American F-35 jet and said-“A country has a flying F-35 and you have made a floating F-35, that too Made in India.”
Navy gets ‘invincible protector’
Rajnath Singh said that both these warships have been made entirely in India and state -of -the -art weapons and sensor systems have been installed in them. He said that they have long-range strip weapons, supersonic surface surface missiles, rocket launchers, torpedo launchers, combat management systems and fire-control systems. These warships will prove to be the “invincible protector” of the sea.
Large achievement of Project 17A
INS Udayagiri Project is the second warship of 17A, which has been created by Majgaon Dock Shipbuilders in Mumbai. At the same time, INS Himgiri is the first P-17A Warship which was prepared by Kolkata’s Garden Reach Shipbuilders. Both frigates are named after the old Ins Udayagiri (F35) and INS Himgiri (F34), who retired after serving for more than 30 years.
Rajnath said- old thinking will not work
The Defense Minister said that in today’s era, the nature of war is constantly changing, so old thinking will not work. We have to find new solutions by guessing new challenges. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the government has given priority to research and development in the defense sector.

Rajnath Singh stressed that India is fully capable of protecting its marine borders and is ready to give a sharp and decisive response under any circumstances.
