Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met Nepal’s Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli and President Ramchandra Paudel on Sunday (August 17, 2025) and discussed the methods of further strengthening bilateral relations in various fields. Misri reached Kathmandu in the morning at the invitation of Nepal’s Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai.
During the meeting of Misri with Oli in the Prime Minister’s Office, matters of mutual interests were discussed to further deepen bilateral relations. The Indian Embassy said in a post on ‘X’ here, “Misri confirmed deep civilized relations and strong India-Nepal partnership and discussed the methods of further strengthening cooperation in various fields.”

Indian Ambassador Naveen Srivastava in Nepal was also present during the meeting. The embassy said in a separate post that the Foreign Secretary met President Paudel separately and ‘wished the Indian leadership, as well as informed the Hon’ble President about the progress in bilateral relations’.
Misri will also meet External Affairs Minister Arju Rana Deuba. He will also hold a bilateral meeting with Nepal’s Foreign Secretary Rai later during the day. He will also meet top leaders of major political parties including Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Nepal Communist Party-Maoist Center Chairman Pushp Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.
Commitment to ‘neighbor first’ policy
The Indian Embassy here said in a social media post that the journey of Misri reflects the tradition of regular high -level dialogue between India and Nepal and reiterates India’s commitment to the policy of ‘neighbor I’. The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement on Saturday that during his visit, contact, development cooperation and other issues will be discussed.
Misri will return home on Monday (August 18, 2025) after finishing his journey. Sources said that the main objective of Misri meetings in Kathmandu is to prepare for Nepal’s Prime Minister Oli’s visit to New Delhi next month. According to diplomatic sources, Oli can come to India around 16 September. However, there has not been an official announcement in this regard.
