If you think that only big and expensive tests are necessary to check the health of the brain, then it is not true. Some easy home tests can also give initial indications about your brain health. One of these is RAM test i.e. Rapid Alternate Movement Test.

What is RAM test?

The RAM test is a simple neurological test, which checks coordination between your brain and muscles. Especially this test helps to check the health of cerebelum, which controls balance, muscle coordination and movement. In this test, you need to turn your hands rapidly or tapping in a special pattern with fingers. If your speed slows down during this test or the movement is not smooth, then it can be a sign of a problem in the brain or nervous system. This problem can be seen in diseases like brain injury, stroke or tumor.

How is RAM test done?

• Sit comfortably on the chair and place both legs on the ground.
• Put your hands on the thighs, the palms should be downwards.
• Flip the palms upwards and then immediately back down. Do this movement as soon as possible and smooth as soon as possible.

To version the fingers, touch your thumb with the first index finger, then the middle finger, then the ring finger and finally with the little finger. After this, repeat in the opposite order. Do this sequence as fast and smooth for 10 consecutive seconds.

What does RAM test tell?

This test checks your brain motor coordination. If your movements are slow, unstable or uncomfortable while doing tests, then it can be a sign of disturbances in the cerebellum or its linked nerve pathway. This problem can be seen in diseases like stroke, multiple sclerosis, brain injury and tumor.

When to see the doctor?

If you have problems during the test and feel dizziness, deterioration of balance or weakness, contact the doctor immediately.

RAM test limit

This test only gives the initial indication. This disease cannot be directly diagnosed. Stress, fatigue or lack of nutrition can also affect test results. Full neurological checkup is necessary to find out the correct reason. RAM test is an easy way from which you can guess your brain coordination sitting at home. But if there is any disturbance in it, do not take it lightly and consult a doctor.
