The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ally in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) welcomed the decision to nominate Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as Vice -Presidential candidate on Sunday (August 17, 2025). Radhakrishnan is an experienced leader of Tamil Nadu BJP and has also been a volunteer of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
BJP President JP Nadda announced this after the party’s parliamentary board meeting on Sunday (August 17). Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also involved in this meeting. Other allies of the party were also consulted in the meeting.
Chandrababu Naidu congratulated CP Radhakrishnan on becoming Vice Presidential candidate
CP Radhakrishnan comes from the influential Gounder caste of Tamil Nadu which falls under other backward classes (OBCs). Assembly elections are due next year in Tamil Nadu. After the announcement, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu supported his party to the NDA candidate.
Naidu said in a post on X, “Congratulations to CP Radhakrishnan on being nominated as the Vice -Presidential candidate of NDA.” He said, “He has done the country’s special service for a long time as a senior politician and respected leader.” The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) warmly welcomes his nomination and expresses his full support. ”
Chirag Paswan welcomed CP Radhakrishnan to make Vice Presidential candidate
Union Minister and chief of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) Chirag Paswan also gave full support to Radhakrishnan on behalf of his party. Jitan Ram Manjhi supported CP Radhakrishnan

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will look after Vice Presidential election
According to sources, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will oversee the Vice Presidential election, while Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju will be the polling agent. The last date for filing nomination is 21 August. If the opposition also declares its candidate, the election will be held on September 9.
