Budget Airline Spicejet has rolled-out a paperless boarding process at Shillong Airport.
The airline said the process offers passengers with a “Faster, Grener, and More Seamless check-in experience.”
Accordingly, passengers checking in at the airport counter will now receive their boarding pass on whatsapp, eliminating the need for physical prints.
Spicejet cited that in spite of web check-in and initiatives such as Digi Yatra, More Than 9 Million Boarding Passes Were Printed at Airports in India in India in June 2025.

According to the airline, the paperless boarding feature is enabled by ‘Web Departure Control System’ (Webdcs)-a browsers-based platform that allows check-in staff to ise Whatsapp or Email, And Bagge Tags via SMS Using Tablets or the Standard Airport Check-in Computer.
“This not only streamlines the check-in process but also enhances operational efficiency,” the airline said.
“Spicejet plans to extend this paperless boarding experience to other airports account India.”
